Club History

The Ithaca Area Toastmasters Club was founded on June 30, 1982. Its first meetings were held in the board room of the Tompkins County Trust Company, downtown Ithaca, where several of the charter members were employed. Meetings were also held at the Holiday Inn and B.O.C.E.S. before moving to the Lifelong Senior Citizens Center.

The individual sponsors of the new club were Susan and Stephen Ruoff, who were members of the Crown City Club in Cortland, NY. The sole mentor of the Ithaca Club was Ken Hull who is presently a member of the High Noon Toastmasters Club, Johnson City, NY.

The Ithaca Area Toastmasters Club has on its club banner 30 ribbons awarded in recognition of club achievements in the Toastmasters International club development program.

The club averages about 20 members, with a normal meeting attendance of 12 to 15. (Club History by Betty Muka, DTM.)
